THE SITUATION
On June 16, 2026, the Department of Education announced an agreement routing civil-rights complaints (Title VI, Title IX, Section 504, ADA) to the DOJ. Separately, EO 14280 (April 23, 2025) directed school-discipline guidance abandoning the disparate-impact framework that flagged racial disparities.
★ WHY IT MATTERS
OCR has resolved tens of thousands of complaints a year through a process families can use directly. Routing cases through litigation under a different mission can leave discrimination against Black, Latino, disabled, and LGBTQ+ students unremedied.

Keep civil-rights enforcement for students inside the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights.
