THE SITUATION
On March 16, 2026, the federal government completed the transfer of Oak Flat (Chí’chil Biłdagoteel) to Resolution Copper, a British-Australian mining venture that plans to mine it into a crater nearly two miles wide. The Supreme Court declined to stop it, but Apache Stronghold and allies have vowed to keep fighting in court.
★ WHY IT MATTERS
Oak Flat is a living place of Apache prayer and ceremony — destroying it is the same playbook that took Standing Rock’s water and Indigenous land for generations. Land Back is about returning sacred land and honoring treaty rights, not erasing them for profit.
★ WHAT WE'RE DEMANDING
Halt the mine, return Oak Flat, and pass the Save Oak Flat Act to protect sacred Indigenous lands.
